Your role in a nutshell

Do you have knowledge of sustainable packaging, post consumer recycled plastics and life cycle analysis tools?

Are you an experienced (and ideally) qualified Engineer? 

We are looking to recruit a Packaging Engineer for a fixed term contract until end of March 2023 based out of our head offices in Watersmead, West Sussex. To be responsible for leading packaging development projects ensuring alignment with the high quality standards, cost and consumer desirability demands of the business. 

You will champion our sustainable packaging commitments and design packs that meet the most efficient life cycle analysis. Research, advise and develop new disruptive aspects of packaging and support in the development of less experienced team members. Identify and implement technical and process improvement opportunities
 

More about the role

  • To ensure that the components developed satisfy both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the brief in a cost effective, technically competent, values led and timely manner.
  • To support the Head of R&I Packaging in negotiations with suppliers to trouble shoot and solve problems as issues arise.
  • Propose optimal technical solutions, review mould design, develop technical drawings and makes/organises models upon requirement.
  • Carries out technical approval testing in accordance with the procedures and methods defined in the packaging design quality system and records the results
  • Perform risk assessments - Carries out optimisation studies for packaging/formula combinations to satisfy product performance requirements (quality, functionality, sustainability…)
  • Ensures design and expertise (Drawings, test reports, etc.) records are archived
  • To liaise with the chosen Contract Filler(s) ensuring that the technical specification of the components being developed allows efficient handling on the selected production line(s). To attend and approve both component and finished goods line trials and production start-up as directed by the Head of R&I Packaging.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with Category Management and Design teams, as well as the full cross functional team.
  • To research new technologies / process / recycling options and material developments in the packaging world, ensuring that TBS benefits to the maximum extent possible.
  • To regularly update the Head of R&I Packaging on the status of component developments against the targeted CPA dates and to flag up potential timing issues and problems.

 

What we look for

•    Demonstrate extensive understanding of all technical processes and material used in the production of Toiletry, Skincare and Cosmetic components and finished goods.
•    A sound knowledge of the potential suppliers of components, including their background, strengths and weaknesses.
•    Knowledge of Sustainable Packaging, Post Consumer Recycled plastics, Life Cycle Analysis tools
•    A proven creative and proactive approach to problem solving to reconcile the aesthetic and functional desires of Category Management and Design with the inherent technical, cost and timing constraints.
•    Strong academic qualifications in engineering or related technical disciplines are an advantage, but not required.
