Your role in a nutshell

We are looking for a Product Development Technologist on a 12 month FTC. The Product Development Technologist will lead all relevant areas of product development and innovation to ensure the prompt availability of quality products for businesses that are safe, effective and suitable for mass production, in line with the brand/category innovation strategy.

 

The successful candidate will ensure all launch commitments are met with regards to lead times and costs.

More about the role

 

Lead all relevant areas of product development (NPD/OPS projects) from the marketing brief to the first production batch:

 

  • Brief our sub-contractors to develop the best formula in terms of quality, performance, innovation and price in the timing, in respect of R&I Strategy guidelines
  • Ensure successful follow-up of your projects
  • Ensure flow of information and samples are done on time from / to vendors and with in-house departments
  • Anticipate fails and include plan B in retro planning when relevant
  • Ensure all the test results are available on time (formulation, stability, challenge test, safety test) to commit with the agreed timing with our sub-contractors and brand team
  • Create, send and compile all official documents through development phases (formula approval, formula finalisation)
  • Alert line manager and propose an action plan and an evaluation impact on timing / cost, for any formula related issue
  • Inform all key stakeholders on the progress of the project
  • Assist the first industrial batch to support the industrial scale up when requested

 

Propose innovative technologies that offer results the consumer can perceive:

 

  • Ensure the R&I related quality of subcontracting and maintain accuracy of documentation and procedures content
  • Promote knowledge sharing by acting as an enabler and sounding board in your field of expertise
  • Contribute to safeguarding of The Body Shop’s intellectual property
  • Build effective relationships with the Brand Team, Operations Team and our Vendors
  • Work respecting The Body Shop's Ethics and Safety rules and foster safety culture

What we look for

  • In−depth knowledge of product formulation, cosmetic products, development phases
  • Ability to maintain an overall view of operations within your role
  • Ability to anticipate, prioritise and adapt to challenging situations in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Knowledge of communication techniques (oral and written) and good presentation skills
  • Experience in using the MS Package – specifically PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build a broad network within research
  • Relevant qualification (ideally degree level) in Chemistry or Cosmetic science
