Your role in a nutshell

To manage a team engaged in the registration of cosmetic products in China. Provide advice and guidance to all areas of the business on regulatory matters, particularly about the legal requirements associated with product formulations and label copy.  Covering all markets where The Body Shop currently operates.  A fluent Mandarin speaker is an essential requirement for this role!

  • Manage a China focused team from several areas of the R&D team, including Regulatory and Chemists.    

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the China CSAR and implementing regulations.   

  • Provide regulatory advice and direction to all departments involved in product development, supply and retail. 

  • Define and implement process to improve the registration process for China.  

  • Project manage the technical documents required for China product registration with relevant teams (UK and China).    

  • Review product formulas and label claims for regulatory compliance to a global standard.   

  • Maintain a broad awareness of worldwide regulatory requirements concerning cosmetic and other formulated products.  

  • Support the Head of Regulatory Affairs as required with additional regulatory matters.

  • Commercially control spend within your specific remit, working creatively and in a SMART way to reduce both overall costs whilst increasing efficiency  

  • To perform other related duties as assigned or requested  

  • Responsible for maintaining the ethical standards of The Body Shop including minimising the environmental, health and safety risks in the workplace and responsible for reporting potential risks, real accidents and near misses to relevant managers 

  • Champions, supports and participates in The Body Shop’s Values and Campaigns  

  • More than five years’ experience in Regulatory Affairs  

  • Extensive knowledge of the regulations governing the sale of cosmetics, and other product types in China and other countries in which TBS operates.  

  • Ability to represent Regulatory Affairs at senior management level 

  • Fluent in Mandarin (essential) 

Qualifications & Competencies Required

  • Educated to first degree level (or equivalent with experience) 

  • China Regulatory Affairs experience   

  • Knowledge of technical regulations – in particular China CSAR and implementing regulations, cosmetic regulations, chemical regulations, database solutions, advertising and claims regulations, supply-chain dynamics 

  • Project and Budget management 

  • People and team management skills 

  • Good communicator, able to engage with teams and individuals across your function or market and influence others effectively (Presentation skills) 

  • Test and Learn Approach 

  • Positive attitude to complexity 

  • Highly organised and logical thinker 

  • Interested in data gathering and analytics 

  • Learning mind-set and undeterred by a challenge
