Your role in a nutshell

Do you know your sustainable innovative raw ingredients from your onions? Are you a proven expert in the biodegradability, naturality and regenerative properties of materials?

Then look no further this is an amazing opportunity for a degree qualified, natural leader to develop and implement the natural and sustainable ingredients strategy for the R&I department here at TBS. We want someone to help us stay at the forefront of innovative technology by developing an innovative and sustainable pipeline for raw materials.

Reporting into the Head of Innovation R&D we are looking for a new Sustainability and Innovation Raw Material Expert for a 3-year fixed term contract based at our Watersmead site in West Sussex. 

More about the role

Perform periodic reviews of strategy to ensure TBS is at the forefront of product innovation including new technologies such as Biotechnology.

Keep abreast of current and future trends within the cosmetics ingredients. Understand how to use new ingredients and their benefits in term of efficacy, sustainability, sensory, affordability and safety of finished product.  

Develop formulation to show case the new ingredients technology you will be working on. Pass on your knowledge and expertise and develop the skills of the formula development by preparing reports, presentations and workshops.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality procedures and understand and follow our internal guidelines.  Create, send and compile all official documents necessary for the coding of the new ingredients.

Commercially control spend within your specific remit, working creatively and in a SMART way to reduce both overall costs whilst increasing efficiency.

Responsible for maintaining the ethical standards of TBS including minimising the environmental, health and safety risks in the workplace and responsible for reporting potential risks, real accidents and near misses to relevant managers.

What we look for

You must be at the top of your game with in-depth knowledge of ingredients, green chemistry, biotechnology, ingredients efficacy and safety tests, sustainability (naturality, biodegradability, life cycle analysis), cosmetic products formulation, etc.

Managing multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to identify, draw on and assimilate a range of information.

Ability to anticipate and adapt your organisation to the task in hand. Knowledge of communication techniques and teaching skills

Detailed knowledge of relevant IT resources and software and good interpersonal skills, the ability to build a broad network within research.


Qualifications required.

Educated to Degree level in Chemistry / Cosmetic science /Food Engineer/ Biology and related
