Your role in a nutshell

Here at The Body Shop, Diversity and Inclusion isn’t a programme or a workstream, it’s a thread and a behaviour that runs throughout everything that we do and every initiative that we undertake. It’s as natural as the ingredients that go into every single one of our amazing products – and now we want to ensure it is just as sustainable and just as measurable.

If D&I was a product it would bring together all the mango, shea and avocado scents of our body butters combined with the raspberry and fresh daisy smells of our body yoghurts and be as all encompassing as our range of gels, exfoliators and peels. You get the drift – all things to all people.

Areas of accountability:

First and foremost you will champion Inclusion and Belonging at The Body Shop and will embody everything it stands for and means through your behaviour, attitude and actions. You will be THE face and inspirational mind driving the agenda. Which means:

Subject Matter Expertise: You will be on point to provide thought leadership, advice, coaching, solutions and consultations to the People business partners, business leaders, our Inclusion and Belonging champions and the Inclusion and Belonging Steer Co. People will look to YOU for guidance and inspiration and you will share this knowledge and expertise through regular and inspiring education and training. You’ll keep up to date with any regulatory and policy developments in your subject area and will reflect this in our own people policies – ensuring they are inclusive and current.


More about the role

Analysis, Ideation & Delivery: You’ll know where to look to identify trends in our workforce, including applicant flow, new hires, terminations, transfers and promotions to identify any areas that would benefit from focus and enhanced diversity initiatives. On the back of your analysis you’ll set business metrics and devise short and long-term interventions that will turn the dial whilst remaining aligned with our business objectives and complimenting local and global Inclusion and Belonging activities.

Whilst you ARE the SME, no one is an island in TBS, so it will be important that you work collaboratively across the business to deliver effective outcomes. You will co-develop innovative strategies and programmes with Talent, Performance, Recruitment and our People teams across the globe and work with Senior Leadership to ensure Inclusion and Belonging is prioritised.

Partnerships: Key to this role is establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with external Diversity, Inclusion & belonging specialists such as Stonewall, BeCo, ENEI, BITC and others, along with your passionate and celebrated support for events such as Pride and Black History Month.

This is quite a unique role and is a clear statement to anyone interacting with The Body Shop that Inclusion & Belonging is a key priority and a fundamental backbone to our business. So we need someone with the knowledge, credibility and shared vision to deliver against this important agenda.

You will be able to demonstrate real expertise in delivering initiatives, managing teams and effecting real change in culture, behaviour and awareness in other businesses.

You will be a vocal and visible campaigner for equality and diverse representation and will be able to speak authentically and passionately about what drives you and why Inclusion & Belonging should sit front and centre of any business.

And whilst you may not be active campaigner or activist for the causes that make The Body Shop the Force for Good it is known as, you will absolutely support our causes and have our values and vision firmly embedded in how you live your life and treat others.

And of course,

You’ll be an innovator, a challenger, a great communicator and a visionary. You’ll be tenacious, determined and resilient – there is still much work to be done to get us where we want and need to be.

And you’ll be kind and collaborative. Like the rest of us.
