Your role in a nutshell

Accountable for the direction and implementation of The Body Shop (TBS) Store Design and Development (inc. Shop Fit and Permanent VM) within North America (NA), by delivering best in class Retail solutions, effectively aligning and collaborating with TBS Global Store Design, and executing the Company’s VISION, goals and objectives.

As the Store Design Development Manager, you will be responsible for translating Global Store Design into NA channels and formats. You will own the development and design of the new refill stations and makeup stations, including managing all refurbishment and ensure alignment with global store design guidelines and commercial viability. As the Subject Matter Expert, you will work within our Purpose framework, Brand Visual and Verbal guidelines, the Global Design Intent Principles and the strategy set up by the Global Brand Director, in close partnership with Global Store Design and VM Team.

More about the role

Coach and communicate with market store development team to adhere to TBS brand concept guidelines, following fixture strategy & principles including bespoke initiatives. Responsible for delivering NA Store Design and Development Strategy and optimising  ways of working to support this delivery. Align with Global vision; working closely with NA President, Head of Retail, Brand Director and Global Store Design Director to ensure Global Retail Design vision is carefully and precisely  translated as required into effective needs based / commercially strong solutions and finished stores, while remaining strategically and visually in line with global vision. Provide work back solutions for Existing Estate to ensure existing Estate is kept up to date across North America. Provide detailed competitor insight for each of the markets to enable TBS to challenge/ succeed in complex environments. Deliver services to markets including: Global adapted concept design, technical design input on site specific needs and implementation/ application support. Co-Develop and align the store design roadmap and ensure delivery is on time and within budget, setting critical milestones and ensuring delivery details. Consult and advise in capital management, resource and schedule planning for store fit-out when. Consult in market planning and construction, and act as primary point of contact between Store Design and other internal business units, outside consultants, and landlords. Plan and manage business unit/department processes and practices so that it is clear to team and internal stakeholders what the core approval processes are and that they are adhered to. Manage NA Development Budget and advise markets on resource and financial planning (current and future needs). Ensure NA markets are provided with adapted guidelines for changes to current store design and for permanent store visual merchandising. Implement “experiential practice” and make a quarterly report – in beauty and other categories, with a particular eye on sustainability and skincare across our North American competitors. Manage global shop-fit supplier team to deliver Store fit out development, Quality Checks and fixture forecasting, ensuring smooth implementation of all rollout. Negotiate contracts with all store development suppliers

Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of direct progressive experience in retail concepts, branded architecture and experiential design with a major beauty retail company

Stong ability to hand sketch to convey design ideas and concepts quickly to leadership and business partners

Knowledge of visual merchandising best practices, with proven experience in retail presentation – specific to beauty and cosmetics . Ability to effectively present and communicate creative ideas and concepts to cross-functional teams

Stong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Sketch UP, AutoCad, and Adobe Creative Suite

Able to travel. Interacts effectively: able to work across functions effectively and build strong stakeholder relationships

Manages complexity: able to navigate matrix structures and create plans that meet local needs

Achieves results with integrity: focuses on delivering results and delivering projects that meet business needs

What we look for

Background in Store Design Development and VM - technical proficiency required to standardize fixture package, fixture detailing and new fixture development

Robust understanding of the Beauty Sector and proven ability to deliver best of class design for High Profile Prototype Stores on time and within assigned budget

Strong construction knowledge and/or extensive experience of in store design implementation, strong practical understanding of how to problem-solve issues on site (involving design, materials, costs)

Shop fit managemement experience eg: working as an agency account manager for shopfitters or general contractor would be advantageous

Ability to effectively present and communicate creative ideas and concepts to cross-functional teams

Ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders across the business and externally
