Your role in a nutshell

We are recruiting for an experienced IP Counsel, with proven experience in global trademark and IP management, ideally within the beauty, FMCG or retail sectors.

 

The successful candidate will take a leading role in the provision of intellectual property advice and services to Natura &Co as part of the Group’s Global IP Team.  They will be responsible for: the global trademark agenda for Avon including direction of trademark strategy, trademark clearance, trademark filing and prosecution and renewals, management of oppositions, cancellations and revocations, portfolio management, and trademark enforcement; as well as responsibility for global IP matters for Aesop including direction of IP strategy, clearance and innovation, portfolio management, and IP enforcement; and IP advisory to the relevant teams and business leaders. 

More about the role

Key job accountabilities will include:

  • The provision of intellectual property advice and services to Natura &Co as part of the IP Hub, including:

  • Act as a CoE to businesses and for the broader Legal and IP team on trademark portfolio insights, guidelines and processes.

  • Ensure company trademarks are strongly protected in all trading countries and other key markets including new markets.

  • Global clearance for safe use of all new product names and trademarks.

  • Filing trademark protection as appropriate, legal advice on trademark filing and portfolio matters.

  • Supervise IP filing and portfolio maintenance functions through the IP lifecycle including renewals, oppositions and other registry actions. 

  • Management of IP enforcement, including litigation, anti-counterfeiting, cease & desist letters, unfair competition, competitor monitoring etc.

  • Build strong partnerships with relevant business stakeholders in Natura &Co companies. Ensure awareness and compliance within the business of IP policies and guidelines, including training as appropriate.

  • Manage team reports and external counsel and service providers effectively and efficiently within budget.

What we look for

You will be an experienced Intellectual Property lawyer with particular technical expertise and practical experience in trademark portfolio management and enforcement either in-house and/or in a law firm. Excellent communication skills and management experience is essential as is a background of working for/with global companies that have high value and high-profile brands and an extensive IP portfolio. Applications from those that are also trademark attorney qualified is desirable, as is those with beauty industry/FMCG experience.
